About the Roslyn Cemetery Legacy Association

Dedicated to ensuring the history and contributions of those residing in the Roslyn Historic cemeteries are remembered, respected and revered.

The Roslyn Cemetery is made up of twenty seven cemetery communities, each having its own rich and unique history. Together they form the Roslyn Cemetery Complex and exemplify the dynamic and influential past that belongs to Roslyn, WA and the greater Kittitas County area.

Roslyn, Washington, nestled in the evergreen trees on the eastern slopes of the Cascades, dedicated in 1886, originated as a coal mining town. The most visible legacy left by Roslyn’s early immigrants can be found in Roslyn’s Historic Cemeteries. These sacred grounds were revered by early families as a place of honor. The cemetery complex covers 19 acres of woods and hills and is unique as it consists of 27 separate cemeteries, many formed prior to the turn of the 20th century.

The Roslyn Cemetery Committee of the Roslyn Ronald Cle Elum Heritage Club, (RRC Heritage Club) received a request from the City of Roslyn to provide “workable” maps for each of its 27 ethnic and lodge cemeteries.  It was the size and scope of this project that compelled our committee to consider the formation of a new 501(c)3.  The Roslyn Cemetery Legacy Association enables us to build a “sustainable” long term mapping program for the community and the City.

While developing the mapping for the City, we established a profile program hosted separately, also contained in the Kiosk.  This program is very special and unique perspective into the lives of those who populate our Cemeteries.  You are able to physically locate the person and also fill in rich details of their lives and the role they played in our community.  The profiles contain personal stories, family connections and details that paint a picture of life in Roslyn and surrounding area over the decades.

Our digital site is one of a kind as it is organized to navigate by cemetery, individuals, families and mapped to their specific plot.

We have all been entrusted by  our ancestors to care for their final resting place.  Our stewardship of these hallowed grounds defines the values each of us places on our unique Legacy.
